Teachers don't need a check. They need to know where to start, and the resourcing to do it.
The Year 1 Numeracy Check is coming to every government school. It is a careful tool and it will confirm what most teachers can already see. But it highlights the gap without surfacing what is needed first, and for some children it will not even do that, because a child can look like they have a skill they do not really have.Identification was never the hard part. It is the sequence that repairs it.
